Existential Psychotherapy

Existential therapy is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on helping individuals understand their place in the world by exploring how their choices impact their lives. Unlike other therapies, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, which look at how past experiences shape behaviors, existential therapy centers on how you personally influence your own experiences and future. This approach can be particularly helpful for people dealing with anxiety, fear, addiction, depression, PTSD, or chronic physical and mental health conditions. It encourages self-awareness, helping you make decisions that align with your true beliefs and what gives your life meaning.

The therapy revolves around four key concepts: death, isolation, meaning, and responsibility. These pillars reflect essential aspects of the human experience. For example, accepting the inevitability of death can help you live more fully, and understanding that you alone are responsible for your choices can reduce anxiety and fear. During sessions, a therapist will guide you through these concepts to help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your choices, and your purpose. Through dialogue, you’ll explore how your past decisions have shaped your current situation and how to make better choices moving forward.

Each session typically lasts about an hour and is focused on helping you confront these existential themes. It can bring up intense emotions, but ultimately, it aims to empower you to feel more in control of your life, reduce fear, and improve your sense of personal responsibility. The goal is to help you accept these fundamental aspects of life so you can live with more intention and fulfillment.
