Reiki is an energy healing therapy or technique that may help you relax, reduce tension, and open your mind, heart, and body to healing. Reiki as it is known today was discovered, or more likely, rediscovered from older times, by Misao Usui in the early 1900s. The word “reiki” is a combination of the Japanese words “rei” for universal and “ki” for the life force that flows in all living beings. The idea is to bring balance to the mind, heart, and body through focused use of this healing energy. While Reiki is still relatively new in the psychological world and more research is needed, early studies have shown that Reiki can bring about feelings of peace, wellness, relaxation, and security.
What does Reiki feel like?
Quite a few people don’t feel anything at all and that is just fine. You don’t have to feel Reiki for it to be potentially helping you. Some people feel warmth, pulsing, or tingling in certain areas of their body during the process. Many people just feel nice and relaxed. When I offer Reiki, I sometimes feel warmth or a kind of intensity in my hands at times. Sometimes I notice my hands or body shake for a few seconds here and there. It’s all good. I believe my body knows how to offer that Reiki energy and your body knows how to receive it, so we just let it unfold as it unfolds.
